DTC P0780: Shift Malfunction

NOTE: Removal of transaxle oil pan may be necessary to complete the following diagnostic procedure.
  1. Turn ignition on. Check for any other DTCs that may be set. If any other DTCs are set in addition to DTC P0780, diagnose them first. If no other DTCs are set, go to next step.
  2. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Start engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. Road test vehicle with gear selector in "D" position. Accelerate vehicle using steadily increasing throttle pressure. Note vehicle speeds and shift points. Stop vehicle. Recheck for DTC P0780. If DTC resets, go to next step. If DTC does not reset, malfunction can not be duplicated at this time.
  3. Check Transmission Range (TR) switch and circuit. See DTC P0705: TRANSMISSION RANGE (TR) SWITCH CIRCUIT . Repair as necessary. If TR switch tests okay, go to next step.
  4. Check Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) and circuit. See DTC P0720: VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS) CIRCUIT . Repair as necessary. If VSS tests okay, go to next step.
  5. Check Throttle Position (TP) sensor and circuit. See DTC P0121 in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Repair as necessary. If TP sensor tests okay, go to next step.
  6. Remove transaxle oil pan. Remove shift solenoids and inspect. See SHIFT SOLENOID TEST  under COMPONENT TESTING. Repair as necessary. If shift solenoids test okay, go to next step.
  7. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Road test vehicle and recheck for DTC P0780. If DTC resets, replace PCM. If DTC does not reset, malfunction can not be duplicated at this time.
