Cruise Control Actuator

  1. To check cruise control actuator resistance, disconnect harness connector at cruise control actuator and note terminal identification. SeeFig 1 .
  2. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between terminals No. 2 and 4. Resistance should be 12-18 ohms. Replace cruise control actuator if no continuity exists or resistance is not within specification.
  3. To check cruise control actuator operation, remove cover from top of cruise control actuator. Note location of terminals. SeeFig 1 . Terminals No. 2 and 3 must be removed from cruise control actuator connector. Use thin wire to lift terminal lock upward and remove terminals No. 2 and 3 from connector. SeeFig 2 .
  4. Connect jumper wires between positive battery terminal and terminals No. 2 and 3. Connect jumper wires between negative battery terminal and terminals No. 1 and 4. Cruise control actuator should rotate to fully open position. SeeFig 3 .
  5. Disconnect jumper wire from terminal No. 3. Cruise control actuator should rotate to fully closed position. SeeFig 3 .
  6. Connect terminal No. 3 to positive battery terminal and terminal No. 1 to negative battery terminal. Clutch on cruise control actuator should operate and cruise control actuator cable should be held in position. Disconnect jumper wires.
  7. Rotate cruise control actuator to fully open position. SeeFig 3 . Connect terminals No. 3 and 4 to positive battery terminal and terminals No. 1 and 2 to negative battery terminal. Cruise control actuator should rotate to fully closed position. Remove jumper wires. Install wires in connector. Replace cruise control actuator if defective.
