DTC P0705: Transmission Range (Tr) Switch: Testing

  1. Turn ignition on. Using a DVOM, measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and TCM harness connector E26, terminal No. 3 (White/Black wire). If reading is about 12 volts with gear selector lever in "P" position, and about zero volts with gear selector lever in any other position, go to next step. If reading is not as specified, go to step  7.
  2. Measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and TCM harness connector E26, terminal No. 16 (Red/White wire). If reading is about 12 volts with gear selector lever in "R" position, and about zero volts with gear selector lever in any other position, go to next step. If reading is not as specified, go to step  7.
  3. Measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and TCM harness connector E25, terminal No. 7 (White/Red wire). If reading is about 12 volts with gear selector lever in "N" position, and about zero volts with gear selector lever in any other position, go to next step. If reading is not as specified, go to step  7.
  4. Measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and TCM harness connector E25, terminal No. 16 (Yellow/Red wire). If reading is about 12 volts with gear selector lever in "D" position, and about zero volts with gear selector lever in any other position, go to next step. If reading is not as specified, go to step  7.
  5. Measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and TCM harness connector E25, terminal No. 15 (Yellow wire). If reading is about 12 volts with gear selector lever in "2" position, and about zero volts with gear selector lever in any other position, go to next step. If reading is not as specified, go to step  7.
  6. Measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and TCM harness connector E25, terminal No. 8 (Red/Black wire). If reading is about 12 volts with gear selector lever in "L" position, and about zero volts with gear selector lever in any other position, check for an intermittent problem. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If reading is not as specified, go to next step.
  7. Test TR switch operation. See TRANSMISSION RANGE (TR) SWITCH  under COMPONENT TESTING. Adjust or replace if necessary. If TR switch is in good condition, check wires in TR switch harness for opens or shorts. Repair as necessary. If no problems are found, substitute TCM with a known-good unit. Retest system.
