A/C Refrigerant Precautions

The air conditioning system may use either refrigerant CFI-12 (R-12) or refrigerant FC-134a (R-134a) depending on vehicle year and specifications. Refrigerant, compressor oil or components are not interchangeable between the two types of refrigerant systems.

Ensure to check which refrigerant is used before any system service is performed. Refer to Fig. 1, for refrigerant system identification.
When replenishing or changing refrigerant or compressor oil, or when replacing any system component, ensure the material or component is designed for the appropriate refrigerant system.
