DTC P1715 - PNP Switch CKT Malfunction

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1996 Suzuki Sidekick. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition on. Using a voltmeter, measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and PCM harness connector "C", terminal No. 22 (Black/Red wire) with transmission in Park and Neutral. See Figure . If reading is zero volts in both positions, leave voltmeter connected and go to next step. If reading is not zero volt, repair open Black/Red wire. Retest system.
  2. Measure voltage with transmission gear selector in "R", "D", "2" and "L" positions. If reading is 10-14 volts, check for an intermittent problem. See TESTS W/O CODES article. If reading is not as specified, check transmission range switch. See appropriate AUTO TRANS DIAGNOSIS article in the AUTO TRANS DIAGNOSIS section. Repair as necessary. If transmission range switch is okay, go to next step.
  3. Check Black/Red wire between PCM and transmission range switch for short to ground. Repair as necessary. If wire is okay, replace PCM. Retest system.
