DTC P0340 - Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor CKT Malfunction
NOTE:
A no-start condition resulting from a faulty starter motor may set DTC P0340. If starter motor does not operate and DTC P0340 is set, check starter circuit before proceeding with following test. If DTC P1500 and DTC P0340 are set together, diagnose DTC P1500 first.
- Remove distributor cap and rotor. Check CMP sensor for damage. Ensure CMP sensor air gap is within specification. Replace or adjust if necessary. See ADJUSTMENTS article. If adjustment is okay, go to next step.
- Disconnect CMP sensor harness connector. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance of CMP sensor between Orange wire and White wire terminals. See CMP SENSOR RESISTANCE
table. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace CMP sensor. Retest system.CMP SENSOR RESISTANCE
Temperature °F (°C) Ohms 14-122 (-10-50) 185-275 122-212 (50-100) 240-325 - Check Orange wire and White wire between PCM and CMP sensor for an open or short to ground. Repair as necessary. If wire(s) are okay, check for an intermittent problem. See appropriate TESTS W/O CODES article. Repair as necessary. Retest system.
