DTC 71 - Internal SDM Fault

DTC 71 indicates an internal SDM malfunction. DTC 71 will set when any of following conditions occur.
- 36 VLR is not within specified limits.
- There has been a reserve voltage, discharge time, failure during 3 consecutive ignition switch cycles.
- Sums of calculated signals during self testing do not match stored values.
- Voltages at driver-side low or passenger-side low terminals of SDM exceed pre-defined limits.
- A malfunction exists in acceleration sensing circuitry of SDM.
- A failure is detected in driver-side inflator or passenger- side inflator current source.
- A malfunction exists in temporary memory storage portion of SDM.
- Read and write errors exist in EEPROM portion of SDM.
- Arming sensor inside SDM fails to operate properly during air bag deployment.
- The SDM has recorded DTC 25.
WARNING:
To avoid air bag deployment and injury when trouble shooting system, only use test equipment specified in diagnostic charts. Under no circumstances should battery powered test equipment or test light be used. Carefully follow all instructions.
