Component Disassembly & Reassembly: MAINSHAFT: Inspection
- Check needle bearing, ball bearings and bearing contacting surfaces for scoring, scratches or wear. Replace if necessary. Using a feeler gauge, measure clearance between each synchronizer ring and gear. See Figure . If clearance is not .039-.055" (1.0-1.4 mm) replace ring and gear.
- Measure width of synchronizer key slot. If width is greater than .409" (10.4 mm), replace synchronizer ring. Measure clearance between shift fork and sleeve using feeler gauge. See Figure . If clearance is greater than .039" (1.0 mm), replace shift fork and/or sleeve as necessary.
