Section 27 (Anti-Lock Brake System - Rear): Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Suzuki Sidekick. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: See ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS article in the GENERAL INFORMATION section.

Rear Wheel Anti-Lock (RWAL) brake system is designed to control braking force of rear wheels in 2WD mode only. This serves to eliminate wheel lock-up and maintain directional stability during hard brake application. System consists of a wheel speed sensor (mounted in rear differential), pressure limit valve, RWAL Electronic Control Module (ECM) and connecting wiring harness.

NOTE: RWAL ECM may also be referred to as RWAL brake controller.

Power is supplied to RWAL ECM through RWAL power relay. System also contains a self-diagnostic function, which enables technician to quickly trouble shoot system by monitoring stored RWAL trouble codes through flashes of the BRAKE warning light.

NOTE: For more information on brake system, see BRAKE SYSTEM article in the BRAKES section.
