DTC P1700: Throttle Position (TP) Sensor Circuit Fault (Sidekick 1.8L): Notes

NOTE: DTC P1700 will set if "ON" time of 64 Hz pulse signal from PCM to TCM is less than .4 milliseconds or greater than 12 milliseconds.
  1. If DTCs P0122 or P0123 are currently set in PCM, diagnose these DTCs first. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
    • G - TESTS W/CODES - Geo Tracker
    • G - TESTS W/CODES - 1.6L - Suzuki
    • G - TESTS W/CODES - 1.8L - Suzuki

If specified DTCs are not currently set, go to next step.

  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect 22-pin PCM harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between ground and 22-pin PCM harness connector terminal No. 18 (Pink/Blue wire). If reading is 10-14 volts, go to next step. If reading is not as specified, go to step 5).
  3. Inspect 22-pin PCM harness connector terminal No. 18 (Pink/Blue wire) for poor terminal contact. Repair as necessary and retest system. If connection is okay, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Reconnect PCM harness connector. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Road test vehicle and recheck for DTCs. If DTC P1700 resets, replace PCM. If DTC P1700 does not reset, fault is not present at this time. Check for an intermittent problem. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect TCM harness connector. Using a DVOM, measure resistance between ground and 22-pin PCM harness connector terminal No. 18 (Pink/Blue wire). If resistance is less than 2 ohms, repair Pink/Blue wire for a short to ground between PCM and TCM. If resistance is not as specified, go to next step.
  6. Using a DVOM, measure resistance between 22-pin PCM harness connector terminal No. 18 (Pink/Blue wire) and TCM harness connector terminal No. 6 (Pink/Blue wire). If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair open in Pink/Blue wire between PCM and TCM.
  7. Reconnect TCM and PCM harness connectors. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Road test vehicle and recheck for DTCs. If DTC P1700 resets, replace TCM. If DTC P1700 does not reset, fault is not present at this time. Check for an intermittent problem. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS.
