DTC P0705: Transmission Range (Tr) Sensor Circuit Fault: Notes
NOTE:
DTC P0705 will set if TR switch signal is not inputted for 25 seconds at 37 MPH or greater. DTC also sets when "D" range signal and an additional range signal is inputted simultaneously for 10 seconds.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect TCM harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between ground and TCM harness connector terminal No. 9 (Green/Blue wire on Sidekick 1.8L; Green wire on all others) while moving gear selector through all gear ranges. If reading is 12 volts in "D" range, and less than one volt in any other range, go to next step. If reading is not as specified, go to step 7).
- Using a DVOM, measure voltage between ground and TCM harness connector terminal No. 23 (Green/Blue wire) while moving gear selector through all gear ranges. If reading is 12 volts in "L" range, and less than one volt in any other range, go to next step. If reading is not as specified, go to step 11).
- Using a DVOM, measure voltage between ground and TCM harness connector terminal No. 22 (Orange/Blue wire) while moving gear selector through all gear ranges. If reading is 12 volts in "N" range, and less than one volt in any other range, go to next step. If reading is not as specified, go to step 15).
- Using a DVOM, measure voltage between ground and TCM harness connector terminal No. 21 (Green/Orange wire on Sidekick 1.8L; Green/Red wire on all others) while moving gear selector through all gear ranges. If reading is 12 volts in "2" range, and less than one volt in any other range, go to next step. If reading is not as specified, go to step 19).
- Inspect TCM harness connector for poor terminal contact. Repair as necessary and retest. If contacts are okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Reconnect TCM harness connector. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Road test vehicle and recheck for DTCs. If DTC P0705 resets, replace TCM. If DTC P0705 does not reset, fault is not present at this time. Check for an intermittent problem. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect TR switch harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between ground and TCM harness connector terminal No. 9 (Green/Blue wire on Sidekick 1.8L; Green wire on all others). If reading is one volt or less, go to next step. If reading is not as specified, repair appropriate wire for a short to power between TR switch and TCM.
- Turn ignition off. Using a DVOM, measure resistance between ground and TCM harness connector terminal No. 9 (Green/Blue wire on Sidekick 1.8L; Green wire on all others). If resistance is less than 2 ohms, repair appropriate wire for a short to ground between TR switch and TCM. If resistance is not as specified, go to next step.
- Using a DVOM, measure resistance between TCM harness connector terminal No. 9 (Green/Blue wire on Sidekick 1.8L; Green wire on all others) and TR switch harness connector terminal No. 9 (Yellow/Green wire on Sidekick 1.8L; Green wire on all others). If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair open in appropriate wire between TR switch and TCM.
- Turn ignition on. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between ground and TR switch harness connector terminal No. 6 (Yellow wire). If reading is 11-14 volts, check TR switch for proper adjustment. See ADJUSTMENTS in appropriate AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SERVICING article.

If adjustment is okay, replace TR switch. If reading is not as specified, repair open in Yellow wire between TR switch and TURN BACK fuse (15-amp).
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect TR switch harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between ground and TCM harness connector terminal No. 23 (Green/Blue wire). If reading is one volt or less, go to next step. If reading is not as specified, repair Green/Blue wire for a short to power between TR switch and TCM.
- Turn ignition off. Using a DVOM, measure resistance between ground and TCM harness connector terminal No. 23 (Green/Blue wire). If resistance is less than 2 ohms, repair Green/Blue wire for a short to ground between TR switch and TCM. If resistance is not as specified, go to next step.
- Using a DVOM, measure resistance between TCM harness connector terminal No. 23 (Green/Blue wire) and TR switch harness connector terminal No. 5 (Green/Blue wire on Sidekick 1.8L; Yellow/Blue wire on all others).
