Removal & Installation: Engine: Removal
- Relieve fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE . Disconnect battery cables and remove battery. Mark and remove hood. Remove air cleaner and ducting. Drain radiator. Remove cooling fan and clutch.
- Remove fan shroud and radiator. Remove A/C condenser (if equipped). Disconnect accelerator cable and kickdown cable (if equipped). Disconnect throttle opener and EGR vacuum switching valves. Remove intake manifold brace.
- Disconnect connectors from fuel injector, TPS and idle speed control solenoid. Mark and remove fuel and vacuum hoses from engine. Remove coolant and heater hoses. Unplug oxygen sensor and distributor primary wires.
- Disconnect air temperature sensor, coolant temperature sensor, coolant temperature switch and oil pressure sensor. Mark and disconnect all remaining wire connectors from intake manifold and throttle body.
- Disconnect wires from starter motor and generator terminals. Remove starter. Raise vehicle. Drain engine oil. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
- On manual transmission models, remove clutch cable. On automatic transmission models, remove automatic transmission cooling hoses from clamps. Remove left side transmission stiffener and torque converter housing lower cover.
- On all models, lower vehicle. Remove nuts and bolts fastening engine to transmission. Support transmission. Attach hoist to engine. Remove engine mounting bolts, and remove engine from body and transmission.
