Diagnostic Procedure
- Turn ignition on and observe BRAKE warning light. If BRAKE warning light is illuminated, go to next step. If BRAKE warning light is not illuminated, determine if DTC 86 is present. Diagnose and repair as needed. If DTC 86 is not present, check for low brake fluid level or closed parking brake switch. Repair as needed.
- Using scan tool, select LAMP function. Command BRAKE warning light on. If BRAKE warning light illuminated, system is currently functioning correctly. See INTERMITTENT OR POOR CONNECTIONS . If BRAKE warning light did not illuminate, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove TURN/BACK and IG fuses. Disconnect 32-pin EBCM harness connector. Turn ignition switch on. Measure voltage between ground and 32-pin EBCM harness connector terminal No. 23 (Violet/White or Violet/Green wire). If voltage is one volt or less, replace EBCM and ensure BRAKE warning light operates properly. If voltage is not one volt or less, repair short to voltage in Red/Black, Violet/White or Violet/Green circuits. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
