April 5, 2026: LEMON Manuals is launched! Read the announcement.

Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Using scan tool, select MISC. TESTS, then IDLE-UP TEST. Monitor status of idle-up circuit. If scan tool displays idle-up circuit as "FAILED", go to next step. If scan tool does not display idle-up circuit as "FAILED", go to step  7 .
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect 32-pin EBCM harness connector and 22-pin ECM harness connector. ECM is located behind left kick panel. Measure resistance between ground and 32-pin EBCM harness connector terminal No. 15 (Pink/White wire). If resistance is infinite, go to next step. If resistance is not infinite, repair Pink/White wire for short to ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  3. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and 32-pin EBCM harness connector terminal No. 15 (Pink/White wire). If voltage is less than 2 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not less than 2 volts, repair Pink/White wire for short to voltage. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  4. Turn ignition to LOCK position. Inspect EBCM and ECM harness connectors for poor connection and proper terminal contact. Repair as required. If connectors are okay, reconnect EBCM and ECM harness connectors. Using scan tool, clear DTC. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. Select MISC. TESTS, then IDLE-UP TEST. If engine speed increases to about 1500 RPM, go to next step. If engine speed does not increase to about 1500 RPM, go to step  6 .
  5. Backprobing between ground and 32-pin EBCM harness connector terminal No. 15 (Pink/White wire), measure voltage while using scan tool to command IDLE-UP TEST. If voltage decreases from 5 volts to about one volt when commanding IDLE-UP TEST, replace ECM. If voltage does not decrease from 5 volts to about one volt when commanding IDLE-UP TEST, replace EBCM.
  6. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If DTC 83 resets, replace EBCM. If DTC 83 does not reset, system is currently functioning correctly. See INTERMITTENT OR POOR CONNECTIONS  .
  7. Using UP/DOWN arrow keys on scan tool, command IDLE-UP. If scan tool displays "IDLE-UP COMMAND ON" and "ACTIVE", go to next step. If scan tool does not display "IDLE-UP COMMAND ON" and "ACTIVE", repeat step  2 .
  8. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If DTC 83 resets, repeat step  2 . If DTC 83 does not reset, system is currently functioning correctly. See INTERMITTENT OR POOR CONNECTIONS  .
