DTC P0118 - Engine Coolant Temp. (ECT) Sensor CKT High Input
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Start engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. Select ECT sensor parameter on scan tool. If display reads -40°F, go to next step. If display reading is 176-212°F, check for an intermittent problem. See TESTS W/O CODES article.
- Disconnect ECT sensor harness connector. Using a fused jumper wire, connect Red/Yellow wire and Gray wire at ECT sensor harness connector terminals together. If display reading rises to 336.2°F or greater, check for poor ECT sensor connection. If connection is okay, replace ECT sensor. Retest system. If display reading is not as specified, go to next step.
- Remove jumper wire from sensor connector. Using a fused jumper wire, connect (backprobe) PCM harness connector "B", terminal No. 21 (Red/Yellow wire) and connector "B", terminal No. 20 (Gray/Yellow wire) together. If display reading is 336.2°F or greater, go to next step. If reading is not as specified, check for poor PCM connections. If connections are okay, replace PCM. Retest system.
- Check for an open in Red/Yellow wire or Gray wire (Gray turns to Gray/Yellow) between IAT sensor and PCM. If wires are okay, replace PCM. Retest system.
