Air Bag Control Module: Service and Repair

Use care not to strike or jar SDM. Improper handling could result in improper SRS operation. Never connect SRS power source when the SDM is not rigidly attached to vehicle with all mounting bracket fasteners carefully tightened to specifications.
1. Disarm air bag as outlined under Air Bag Disarming and Arming. Service and Repair

2. On Sidekick and X-90 models, remove rear then front console boxes, Fig. 10.

3. Remove SDM electrical connector, Fig. 12.
4. Remove SDM attaching screws, then SDM, Fig. 12.
5. Reverse procedure to install, noting following:
a. Position SDM to mounting with arrow facing toward vehicle front
b. Apply suitable thread lock cement and tighten attaching screws to specifications.
c. Ensure SDM electrical connector properly engages, then push lock tab down. Also ensure wiring is properly routed.
d. Arm SRS as outlined under Air Bag Disarming and Arming. Service and Repair
