Manual Shifting Test

NOTE: Perform manual shifting test if no DTCs are present. Manual shifting test determines if problem is an electrical or mechanical related problem.
  1. Start and operate vehicle until normal operating temperature is achieved. Disconnect TCM harness connectors. Road test vehicle in "L" range up to 13 MPH. Ensure 1st gear is being used. Manually upshift to "2" range and accelerate to 25 MPH. Ensure 3rd gear is being used.
  2. Manually upshift to "D" range and ensure overdrive gear is used when vehicle is driven at speeds greater than 25 MPH. Stop vehicle and turn ignition off. Reconnect TCM harness connectors. Clear DTCs, as disconnecting harness connectors may set a DTC. See CLEARING TROUBLE CODES .
  3. If a fault is present during manual operation, problem is mechanically related. Perform STALL TEST, TIME LAG TEST, LINE PRESSURE TEST, ENGINE BRAKE TEST and "P" RANGE TEST.
