Description & Operation
The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) controls fluid pressure to the front and rear brakes. Wheel speed sensors located at each wheel, detects wheel rotation speed and sends a signal to ABS control module (located under left side of instrument panel). See Fig 1 . The ABS hydraulic unit controls fluid pressure in response from signals from ABS control module. A hydraulic pump boosts fluid pressure in case of low fluid pressure.
When wheel speed sensor signals indicate a impending wheel lockup condition, ABS control module calculates vehicle deceleration speed and sends a signal to hydraulic unit to modulate brake fluid pressure as necessary preventing wheel lockup. ABS control module has self-diagnostic capability.
