DTC P1705: ECT Sensor Signal Input Malfunction: Notes

NOTE: DTC P1705 will set if voltage at TCM harness connector E25, terminal No. 10 (Gray/Black wire) is high (9-14 volts), or low (about zero volts) while engine is running.
  1. Check for engine performance related DTCs. See SCAN TOOL METHOD under RETRIEVING TROUBLE CODES . If DTC P0117 or P0118 is present, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Repair as necessary. If specified DTCs are not present, go to next step.
  2. Ensure engine is cold. Start engine. Using a DVOM, check duty cycle (voltage on-time) between ground and TCM harness connector E25, terminal No. 10 (Gray/Black wire). If reading is 3.4-4.6 volts with coolant temperature at 32-122°F (0-50°C), or 6.7-9.3 volts with coolant temperature greater than 122°F (50°C), check for an intermittent problem or faulty TCM. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If reading is not as specified, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connectors. Turn ignition on. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between ground and PCM harness connector E92, terminal No. 3 (Gray/Black wire). See Figure. If reading is 9-14 volts, substitute PCM with a known-good unit. If reading is not as specified, go to next step.
  4. Check Gray/Black wire for an open or short to ground. Repair as necessary. If wire is okay, substitute TCM with a known-good unit. Retest system.
