Retrieving Trouble Codes
CAUTION:
Ensure engine remains running while retrieving DTCs. Any DTCs will be erased if ignition is turned off.
- After test driving vehicle, apply parking brake and idle engine with gear selector in "P" position. Locate natural colored 6-pin diagnostic monitor coupler under instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Fig 1.
- Using an analog ohmmeter, connect leads between chassis ground and terminal "A" of coupler. Using a jumper wire, jumper terminals "B" and "D" of coupler together. See Fig 1.
- To read DTCs, record sequence of ohmmeter indicator sweeps. All DTCs are 2-digit numbers. Each digit is separated by a 1.5 second pause. Additional DTCs are separated by a 2.5 second pause. See Fig 2. Record all DTCs.
- Once DTC is obtained, determine probable cause and symptom. See DTC IDENTIFICATION table. For trouble shooting of DTCs, see DIAGNOSTIC TESTING . Turn ignition off and remove jumper wire.
