Chart A - SDM System Integrity Check
When ignition switch is turned to ON position, system voltage is applied to B9 terminal of SDM. If this voltage is greater than 6.4V, AIR BAG warning lamp flashes 7 times. At same time, SDM performs a series of tests to determine whether an SIR system failure has occurred. If a system fault is detected, a DTC is stored in SDM.
NOTE:
Test numbers below refer to test numbers in chart.
- Verifies presence of a current system failure. If there is no current malfunction, SDM has set a historic DTC. SDM should not be replaced for a historic DTC.
- Ensures that no DTCs have been erroneously recorded as a result of diagnostic procedure. It is very unlikely that a faulty SDM would cause a system malfunction during diagnosis.
- Verifies integrity of all circuitry external to SDM. SDM replacement is valid only after completion of this test.
WARNING:
To avoid air bag deployment and injury when trouble shooting system, only use test equipment specified in diagnostic charts. Under no circumstances should battery powered test equipment or test light be used. Carefully follow all instructions.
