Section 1 (Anti-Lock Brakes): Description

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 1998 Suzuki X-90, 1998 Suzuki Sidekick, 1997 Suzuki X-90, 1997 Suzuki Sidekick, and 1996 Suzuki X-90. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: See ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
NOTE: For more information on brake system, see appropriate DISC & DRUM article.

Sidekick 1.6L and X-90 may be equipped with Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS). System uses electric motors to modulate pressure control pistons. ABS operates on each front wheel and both rear wheels. ABS consists of Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM), ABS check relay, ABS enable relay, 3 wheel speed sensors, ABS actuator assembly, 2 or 3 warning lights, brake switch, 4WD switch (4-wheel drive vehicles only), differential switch and "G" sensor (4-wheel drive vehicles only). See Fig 1 .

EBCM uses signals from wheel speed sensors to determine when a wheel is about to lock and adjusts hydraulic pressure to maintain optimum braking. ABS cannot increase brake pressure greater than master cylinder pressure generated by driver. ABS cannot apply brakes by itself.
