Removal & Installation: Samurai

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove shift lever boot. Remove shift lever case cover bolts, and remove shift lever. Disconnect back-up light and 5th gear switch. Disconnect starter motor wiring, and remove starter. Remove clamps attaching fuel hoses to transmission case. Drain transmission fluid.
  2. Disconnect clutch cable from clutch release lever. Remove both drive shafts. Remove clutch inspection plate. Remove engine-to-transmission bolts and nuts. Remove crossmember and transmission rear mounting bracket. Remove center exhaust pipe. Lower transmission from vehicle. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts to specification.
