Rear Planetary Gear & Output Shaft: Inspection

  1. Clean all components with solvent. Dry with compressed air. Inspect all components for wear or damage. Using a dial indicator, measure inside diameter of output shaft bushing. Maximum inside diameter is .7117" (18.077 mm). If inside diameter is greater than specified, replace output shaft.
  2. Using a feeler gauge, measure clearance between rear planetary carrier pinion gear and carrier case. Clearance should be .008-.020" (.20-.51 mm). If clearance is not as specified, inspect rear planetary carrier thrust washer. If necessary, replace rear planetary carrier assembly.
