Overdrive Brake: Reassembly

  1. Lubricate and install oil sealing rings on OD case. Ensure rings rotate smoothly after installation. Install NEW "O" rings on OD brake piston. Using hand pressure, carefully install brake piston into OD case with cup side upward.
  2. Install piston return springs into OD case in appropriate locations. See Figure . Install spring seat and snap ring. Ensure end gap of snap ring is not aligned with cutout portion of OD case. Ensure snap ring is inserted in its groove.
  3. Install rear bearing race, thrust bearing and front bearing race on OD planetary ring gear. Install OD planetary ring gear assembly into OD case.
  4. Install cushion plate into OD case with rounded side inward. Install plates and discs in appropriate order. Install flange with rounded edge facing upward. Install snap ring.
  5. Ensure end gap of snap ring is not aligned with cutout portion of OD case. Recheck OD brake piston stroke or clearance. If measurement is not as specified, check for incorrect reassembly of components.
