CLOCKSPRING Coil & Combination Switch: Removal
- Before proceeding, follow air bag service precautions. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
- Remove driver's side air bag module. See DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG INFLATOR MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove steering wheel retaining nut. Place reference marks on steering wheel and steering column shaft for installation reference.
- Using puller, remove steering wheel. Remove lower instrument panel cover from instrument panel for access to steering column.
- Remove upper and lower steering column covers from steering column for access to coil spring and combination switch. If upper steering column cover is difficult to remove, it may be necessary to loosen steering column mounting bolts for removal of upper steering column cover.
- Remove wiring harness clamps on steering column for clockspring coil and combination switch wiring harness. Disconnect wiring harness for clockspring coil and combination switch. Remove clockspring coil and combination switch from steering column.
