Ignition Switch & Column Lock: Removal

  1. Ensure front wheels are pointed straight ahead. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove steering wheel, driver's air bag and clockspring and combination switch assembly. See STEERING WHEEL  and CLOCKSPRING & COMBINATION SWITCH  . Remove steering column. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in STEERING COLUMNS article.
  2. Using a hammer and drift punch, loosen shear bolts from column lock assembly. DO NOT  damage aluminum part of steering lock body with drift punch. Turn ignition switch to ACC or ON position. Remove column lock assembly from steering column. SeeFig 1 and Fig 2 .
