Disabling & Activating Air Bag System

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1996 Suzuki X-90 and 1996 Suzuki Sidekick. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: Wait about 2 minutes after disabling system before servicing. System maintains voltage for about 2 minutes. Servicing system before 2 minutes have passed may cause accidental air bag deployment and possible personal injury.
  1. Turn steering wheel so that wheels are pointing straight ahead. Turn ignition switch to LOCK. Remove AIR BAG fuse from air bag fuse box located near base of steering column. Remove steering wheel side cap (left) and disconnect Yellow 2-way connector for driver-side inflator module. See Fig 1 .
  2. Pull out glove box while pushing right and left stoppers in. Disconnect Yellow 4-way connector for passenger-side inflator module.
    NOTE: With AIR BAG fuse removed and ignition ON, AIR BAG warning lamp will be ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a malfunction.

  3. To activate system, turn ignition switch to LOCK position and remove key. Connect Yellow 4-way connector. Connect Yellow 2-way connector. Install glove box and steering wheel side cap. Install AIR BAG fuse. Turn ignition switch to ON position and ensure AIR BAG warning lamp flashes 7 times and then turns off.
