DTC 96: 4WD Switch Circuit Open: Description

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 1998 Suzuki X-90, 1998 Suzuki Sidekick, 1997 Suzuki X-90, 1997 Suzuki Sidekick, and 1996 Suzuki X-90. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Power to 4WD indicator light is supplied through the IG COIL fuse. The 4WD switch is open when transfer case is set in 2WD or Neutral range. When in 2WD, ECBM senses current at 32-pin harness connector terminal No. 6 (Orange/Black wire). When 4WD switch is closed, circuit is grounded and voltage to ECBM terminal No. 6 drops to about zero, illuminating 4WD indicator and signals EBCM that vehicle is in 4WD. DTC can be set anytime EBCM detects an open Orange/Black wire circuit, open 4WD indicator bulb or an open IG COIL fuse.
