Reverse Clutch: Inspection
- Check for worn, discolored (burnt) or cracked discs and plates. Replace if necessary. If printed numbers on clutch disc surfaces are defaced, replace them.
- Using calipers, measure reverse clutch return spring height. Perform measurement at several points. Replace return spring assembly if height is less than .740" (18.8 mm). Ensure check ball is free in piston and rattles when shaken. Ensure check ball does not leak when compressed air is applied. Check outer surface of reverse clutch drum. Replace if worn or burnt.
NOTE:
Soak new clutch discs in ATF for 2 hours or more before assembly.
