Component Disassembly & Reassembly: Differential: Installation

  1. Using appropriate bearing driver, drive bearing outer race and washer into transaxle case. Install differential assembly into transaxle case. Tighten case bolts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 N.m).
  2. Using an INCH lb. torque wrench and Preload Adapter (09928-06050), measure differential preload (starting torque). See Fig 3 . Specified preload is 12 INCH lbs. (1.4 N.m). If preload exceed s specification, select appropriate selective washer for both transaxle case and housing.
  3. Selective washers are available from .083-.114" (2.10-2.90 mm) in .002" (.05 mm) increments. Preload changes about 3-4 INCH lbs. (.3-.5 N.m) with each washer thickness. Install differential side oil seal.
