DTC 31: Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
NOTE:
DTC 31 will set if no VSS signal is inputted while transaxle is in "D", "2" or "L" range, and forward clutch cylinder revolution sensor signal was inputted 5000 times.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect TCM harness connectors. Using a DVOM, measure resistance between TCM harness connector terminal B13 (Black wire) and terminal B5 (White wire). If resistance is 648-792 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, go to step 3.
- Test operation of Transmission Range (TR) switch. See TRANSMISSION RANGE (TR) SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTING. Adjust or replace if necessary. If TR switch tests okay, check for poor TCM harness connections. Repair as necessary. If connections are okay, substitute TCM with a known-good unit. Retest system.
- Test operation of VSS. See VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS) under COMPONENT TESTING. Replace if necessary. If VSS switch tests okay, repair Black or White wire for an open or short.
