Differential Assembly: Reassembly

  1. Install thrust washers and side gears. Install pinion gears and thrust washers. Install pinion shaft.
  2. Install differential case in soft jawed vise. Apply measuring tip of dial indicator to top surface of side gears. Move side gears up and down. See Figure. Thrust play should be .002-.013" (.05-.33 mm). Select and install suitable thrust washers to obtain specified thrust play.
  3. Drive in pinion shaft roll pin until flush with case. Install left bearing using Differential Side Bearing Puller Attachment (Geo J34851, Suzuki 09925-88210). Install speedometer drive gear. Support differential case to prevent damage to LH bearing and install RH bearing using Bearing Installer (Geo J29036, Suzuki 09951-76010) with Driver Handle (Geo J8092). Install final gear and tighten bolts to 63 ft. lbs. (85 N.m).
