Retrieving Trouble Codes

CAUTION: Ensure vehicle remains running while retrieving codes. Any trouble codes will be erased if ignition is turned off.
  1. Test drive vehicle. Apply parking brake. Idle engine in "P" range. Locate Green  and Black  data link connectors under dash on right side of steering column. Connect voltmeter or test light probes to monitor connector (Green  ). See Fig 1 .
  2. Using a jumper lead, connect terminals of DIAG switch (Black  ) connector which is located next to monitor (Green  ) connector.See Fig 1 .
  3. To read diagnostic trouble code, record voltage pulses or test light flashes. All codes are 2-digit numbers. Each digit is separated by a 1.5 second pause. Additional trouble codes are separated by a 2.5 second pause. See Fig 2 . Record all trouble codes.
  4. Once trouble code is obtained, determine probable cause and symptom. See the TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION  table. For trouble shooting of trouble codes, see DIAGNOSTIC TESTING  . Turn ignition off and remove jumper wire.

32 Park/Neutral Position Switch
33 Engine Speed Input
(1) Check listed component for probable cause. Also check wiring and connections of specified component.
