AIR CONDITIONING

CAUTION: The Air Conditioning System this model uses a newer type of refrigerant called HFC-134a, or R134a. This new type of refrigerant, along with its related Compressor Oil and component parts, are not interchangeable between the two types of A/C systems: HFC-134a (R134a) and R-l2. Be sure to check which refrigerant is used before performing any service work, including inspection and maintenance.

Before adding or replacing the Compressor Oil, recharging the system, or replacing component parts, be sure that these parts are appropriate for the A/C system that is installed the vehicle. Using inappropriate parts will result in leakage of refrigerant, damage to component part, or other or other faulty conditions.

NOTE: The A/C Solenoid Vacuum Valve is installed in vehicles equipped with an Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) only. It is not installed in vehicles equipped with an Idle Speed Control (ISC) motor.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Identification of the installed A/C system. (refer to Fig 20 .)

The type of A/C System can be identified by checking the following three areas:

  1. A/C Caution Plate, located under the hood on the Engine Hood Lock Member.
  2. Identification label on the A/C Compressor.
  3. Shape of the Service (Charge) Valves.
