Shift Lever Switch: Installation

  1. Shift selector lever to "N" position. Using flat tip screwdriver, turn shift lever switch joint clockwise or counterclockwise. See Fig 1 . Ensure a click is heard from joint at this position.
  2. After installing shift lever switch to manual shift shaft, move shift lever switch by hand in direction of arrow. See Fig 2 . Stop at position where a click from joint is heard or felt by hand. Tighten shift lever switch bolt to 10-17 ft. lbs. (13-23 N.m).
  3. Install coupler and clamp. Check for proper installation. Apply parking brake and block vehicle wheels. Check for the following:
    • With selector lever in "P", turn starter switch to ON position. Engine should start.
    • With selector lever in "N", turn starter switch to ON position. Engine should start.
    • With selector lever shifted from "N" to "L" and back to "N", turn starter switch to ON position. Engine should start.
    • Shift selector lever from "N" to "P". Check start motor for operation.
    • Ensure starting motor and starter switch operate in "P" and "N" position.
    • Without starting engine, turn ignition switch to ON position and shift selector lever to "R". Ensure back-up lights illuminate.
