Manual Shifting Test
- Object of test is to check gears being used in "L", "2" or "D" range with electric gearshift control system disconnected. Test drive vehicle on level road until engine is warm.
- Disconnect solenoid wire connector. See Figure . Shift transmission into "L" range and accelerate to 19 MPH. Ensure 1st gear is operating properly. Shift to "2" range and accelerate to 37 MPH. Ensure 2nd gear is operating properly.
- Shift to "D" range and accelerate to more than 37 MPH. Ensure 3rd gear is operating properly. If transmission shifts correctly, fault is electronic. If shifting is not correct or erratic, see overhaul article for further diagnosis. After test is complete, stop engine and reconnect solenoid wire connector.
