Pinion Shaft Starting Torque

  1. Ensure pinion shaft thrust play is not excessive. Position pitman arm parallel with pinion shaft. This will simulate front wheels being straight with steering gear installed.
  2. Connect Torque Check Socket (09944-18211) and INCH-lb. torque wrench to pinion shaft. Shaft should start to move with 4.43-8.85 INCH lbs. (.5-1.0 N.m) of torque applied. If starting torque is not within specification, loosen or tighten adjusting screw and recheck.
