This bulletin is to inform you of the change in the A/C System that will be tacking place in the 1994 Sidekicks. the new system will use a new type of refrigerant called R134a, which differs from the other type of A/C System which uses R-12. This bulletin describes and identifies the new components and the precautions that must be taken when servicing this system.
All component parts are shown in Fig 1 . Since these parts are not interchangeable between the two A/C systems, be sure to use the correct replacement parts by referring to the parts catalog for the vehicle being serviced.
IDENTIFICATION BETWEEN R-12 TYPE AND R-134a TYPE A/C
The type of A/C system installed on the vehicle can be identified by referring to the I.D. plates located on the vehicle frame and on the back of the compressor. Shown in Fig 2 , are their locations and appearance.
SERVICING
The method and precautions to be used when recharging R- 134a A/C systems and the precautions involved for handling the refrigerant container are basically the same as those for the R-12 A/C systems, except for a few differences, which are described below:
- The operation pressure of a specified amount of added refrigerant will vary, depending on the refrigerant
- Compressor oil: R-12 type - ND-0IL6, R-134a type - ND-0IL8
- Manifold Gauge Set (refer to Fig 3 )
When evacuating the R-134a type A/C system, be sure to attach a vacuum pump adapter to the vacuum pump.
