THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR (TP SENSOR)
ADJUSTMENT
- Warm up engine to normal operating temperature.
- Check to make sure that fast idle cam and cam follow lever ARE NOT contact with each other. If they are, check fast idle cam and cam follow lever are NOT in contact with each other. If they are, check fast idle control system.
- Loose TP sensor screws.
- Remove ECM by referring to item "ECM Removal and with coupler connected, connect digital type voltmeter. See Fig 2 .
- Turn TP sensor clockwise or counterclockwise and tighten TP sensor screw at a position where voltage as specified below is obtained at coupler terminal A23 (D23 for PCM).NOTE: If Tech-1 and cartridge are available, it is not necessary to remove ECM. Make an adjustment by using Tech-1 while observing TP sensor voltage. TP sensor voltage when throttle is fully closed: 0.50 +/- 0.15 V Tightening Torque, see Fig 2 , (a): 2.5 N.m (0.25 kg-m, 1.8 ft-lb)
- Check to make sure that TP sensor voltage is as shown below when throttle is fully open. TP sensor voltage when throttle is fully open: 4.0 +/- 0.5 V
- Install ECM.
- Disconnect negative cable at battery for 2 minutes to clear learned TP sensor voltage in ECM memory.
INSTALLATION
- Insert the TP sensor into its installation hole in the throttle as shown in the diagram, see Fig 3 . Turn the TP sensor clockwise in the direction of the arrow and secure with two new TP sensor screws.
- Connect and secure coupler to TP sensor.
- Connect battery negative cable to battery.
- Adjust TP sensor according to procedure described above.
