Camshaft Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

Crankshaft Position Sensor Terminals:

- Remove ECM with bracket, relays, fuse box and wire harness.
- Connect couplers to ECM.
- Connect voltmeter between "B3" terminal and ground.
- Remove distributor cap, rotor and cover.

NOTE: Check to make sure that magnet is free from any metal particles.

Inspecting Camshaft Position Sensor:

- Turn ignition switch ON, check voltage with signal rotor inserted between hall element and magnet ("A") and without it ("B") respectively, by turning crankshaft.


"A": Magnetic flux cut off 3-5V

"B": Magnetic flux applied 0-1V


- If check result is not satisfactory, repair wire harness or replace CMP sensor.
- Install cover, rotor and cap to distributor.
- Install ECM.
