Blower Motor: Service and Repair

Heater Blower Unit

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain coolant system into appropriate container.
2. Disconnect heater inlet and outlet hoses from heater unit pipes.
3. Remove instrument panel assembly as follows:
a. Remove horn pad, then steering wheel using a suitable puller.
b. Remove radio case stay screws and pull out radio case with radio and cigarette lighter, then disconnect radio and cigarette lighter electrical connectors.
c. Remove ashtray, then the ashtray plate attaching screws.
d. Disconnect front hood opening cable from lock assembly.
e. Loosen glove compartment stay screw and hood opening cable locknut from backside of glove compartment cover.

f. Disconnect electrical connectors and control cables from heater control panel, Fig. 4.
g. Pull out heater control knobs and plate, then loosen heater lever case screws.
h. Disconnect electrical connectors from speedometer and instrument panel.
i. Disconnect speedometer cable.
j. Release wire harness clamps installed to instrument panel.
k. Loosen screws securing instrument panel, then remove instrument panel.
4. Loosen front door stopper screws, then remove steering column holder.
5. Disconnect blower motor and resistor electrical connectors.
6. Loosen heater case securing nut from inside engine compartment, then remove heater assembly, Fig. 4.
7. Remove blower motor, Fig. 4.
8. Separate heater unit case halves, then remove heater core from heater unit.
9. Reverse procedure to install.
