Using a suitable piston ring expander, remove rings from pistons then position piston in an arbor press, and using a suitable drift, remove piston pins from pistons.
Each piston top is stamped with a No. 1 or 2, depending on its outer diameter. A No. 1 stamped piston, outer diameter should be 2.9121-2.9130 inches (73.98-73.88mm) and a No. 2 stamped piston, outer diameter should be 2.9122-2.9126 inches (73.97-73.98mm).
When installing piston and connecting rod assemblies, ensure number on piston top matches cylinder number stamped in block, Fig. 14, and arrows on top of pistons are facing front of engine, crankshaft pulley side, Fig. 15.
Pistons are available in standard sizes and oversizes of 0.0098 inch (0.25mm) and 0.0196 inch (0.50mm).
