Heater Core: Service and Repair
HEATER COREFig. 8 Exploded View Heater Unit:
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain radiator and disconnect two water hoses from heater core.
3. Disconnect all wires and cables from heater and blower units.
4. Remove steering wheel and steering column, referring to STEERING SUSPENSION CHASSIS AND BODY COMPONENTS/STEERING/COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES/IGNITION SWITCH & LOCK ASSEMBLY.
5. Disconnect speedometer cable, then remove speedometer assembly.
6. Remove both front speaker garnishes and center cover.
7. Remove instrument panel member mounting bolts.
8. Remove instrument panel and panel member as an assembly.
9. Remove heater unit, Fig. 8.
10. Remove heater unit clips and screws, then separate heater unit.
11. Remove heater core from heater unit.
12. Reverse procedure to install.
