Intake Manifold: Installation
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1986 Chevrolet Sprint. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Clean all mating surfaces. Using a new gasket, install intake manifold on cylinder head. Install wire harness clamps. Ensure that wires do not interfere with fuel pump. Install 3-Way Solenoid Valve (TWSV) with terminals facing down and away from carburetor. Tighten manifold nuts and bolts to 14-20 ft. lbs. (18-27 N.m).
- Install vacuum lines and coolant hoses. Connect emission control hoses. Connect electrical leads for cooling fan, thermal switch, water temperature gauge switch and TWSV.NOTE: When installing TWSV, ensure that Blue harness connector is connected to Blue TWSV terminal and Black harness connector is connected to Black TWSV terminal.
- Refill cooling system. Connect negative battery cable. Ensure accelerator cable is properly adjusted. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
NOTE:
Accelerator cable is properly adjusted when engine is at normal operating temperature, throttle plates are in idle position and cable free play of .12-.19" (3.0-5.0 mm) is obtained. When engine is cold and choke plate is closed, cable free play should measure .40-.59" (10.0-15.0 mm).
