SERVICING
When the transmission case housing is installed on the transmission case after the differential case has been replaced, perform the shim adjustment in the following procedures.
NOTE:
When carrying out the following measurement, make sure to remove the gasket both from the transmission case housing and the transmission case.
- As shown in Fig 4 , place a straightedge across the trans- mission case housing and measure the distance "A" using a vernier caliper. The distance "A" can be obtained by subtracting the straightedge thickness "C" from the distance "B". [A = B-C].
- In the similar manner to step 1, calculate the transmission case distance "D". The distance "D" can be obtained by subtracting the thickness "C" from the distance "E". [D = E-C]. See Fig 5 .
- Using a vernier caliper, measure the differential distance "F" (bearing to bearing), as shown in Fig 6 .
- Obtain the value "G" by adding together the distance "A" in step 1 to distance "D" in step 2, plus 0.4 mm (0.0157 in.). [G = A + D + 0.4 mm]NOTE: The dimension 0.4 mm is equivalent to gasket thickness.
- Obtain the value "H" by adding 0.2 mm (0.0079 in.) to the distance "F" in step 3. [H = F + 0.2 mm]NOTE: The value 0.2 mm is intended to absorb the measurement error.
- Obtain the value "t" by subtracting "H" in step 5 from distance "G" in step 4. [t = G-H]
- Select the shim, the thickness of which is the closest to the value "t" according to the chart and install it to the position indicated in Fig 1 .
CAUTION:
The thickness selected must be thinner than the value "t" as calculated in step 6.
