CONDITION
Abnormal exhaust noise, reduced maximum power, and reduced fuel economy.
CAUSE
Internal restriction in exhaust pipe #1 located between the manifold and the center pipe
CORRECTION
Replace old style exhaust pipe #1 (14190-57B11) with new style pipe (14190-57B12). See Fig 1
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
NOTE:
Vehicles may have the new style exhaust pipe already installed. Visually confirm that the vehicle has the old style Exhaust Pipe #1 before proceeding with repair.
- Before starting installation, make sure that the area underneath the vehicle is clean and dry, and exhaust system is cool to the touch.
- Remove the three (3) nuts connecting the exhaust pipe #1 to the exhaust manifold. See Fig 2
- Remove the three (3) nuts connecting the center pipe to exhaust pipe #1. See Fig 3
- Remove the two (2) blocks from the exhaust system mounting bracket at the transmission. See Fig 4
- Slide the exhaust pipe #1 out of the vehicle.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
- Connect exhaust pipe #1 and gasket to the center pipe. Install connecting nuts by hand, leaving connection loose. See Fig 3
- Install gasket and exhaust pipe #1 to exhaust manifold. Install connecting nuts by hand, leaving connection loose. See Fig 2
- Install two (2) bolts in the exhaust system mounting bracket to transmission hand tight, leaving connection loose. See Fig 4
- Tighten the three (3) nuts connecting the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold in the order as shown in Fig 5 Tightening Torque: 36.5-50.5 lb-ft (50-70 Nm, 5.0-7.0 kg-m)
- Tighten exhaust system mounting bracket bolts to transmission. Tightening Torque: 36.5-50.5 lb-ft (50-70 Nm, 5.0-7.0 kg-m)
- Tighten #1 exhaust pipe to center pipe nuts. Tightening Torque: 36.5-50.5 lb-ft (50-70 Nm, 5.0-7.0 kg-m)
