Code 5, Excessive Dump Valve Action

  1. Ensure rear brakes are not dragging. If rear brakes are dragging, repair mechanical problem before proceeding with electronic testing.
  2. If rear brakes are not dragging on 2WD models, go to step 4). On 4WD models, turn ignition off, and disconnect RWAL ECM connector. Shift into 4WD. Turn ignition on.
  3. Check voltage on RWAL ECM harness connector terminal No. 3. If reading is less than one volt, go to next step. If reading is greater than one volt, repair 4WD switch or open in its wiring. See Figure.
  4. Replace pressure limit valve. Clear Code 5 by disconnecting negative battery cable for at least 5 seconds. Drive vehicle in 2WD setting. In a safe area, firmly apply brakes and ensure rear wheels do not lock.
