Steering Gear: Inspection
- Check pinion shaft starting torque and operating torque. Refer to PINION SHAFT STARTING TORQUE and PINION SHAFT OPERATING TORQUE under ADJUSTMENTS . Inspect steering gear case for cracks and abnormalities.
- Check pinion shaft for excessive play. Check oil seals for leaking or cracking. Disassembly of steering gear is not recommended by manufacturer. If abnormalities are found, replace steering gear assembly.
