Component Disassembly & Reassembly: MAINSHAFT: Inspection
- Check needle bearing, ball bearings and bearing contacting surfaces for scoring, scratches or wear. Replace if necessary. Using Feeler Gauge (Geo J3172), measure clearance between each synchronizer ring and gear. See Figure . If clearance is not .039-.055" (1.00-1.40 mm) replace ring and gear.
- Measure width of synchronizer key slot. If width is greater than .409" (10.39 mm) replace synchronizer ring. Measure clearance between shift fork and sleeve using feeler gauge. See Figure . If clearance is greater than .039" (1.00 mm), replace shift fork and/or sleeve as necessary.
